Assessments available in Scarborough and Bridlington
The Nippy Taxis Taxi Driving Assessment is designed to assess a candidate’s ability to drive safely, responsibly and to the standard expected of a professional taxi/private hire driver.
The assessment is undertaken in the candidate’s own vehicle. It is the candidate’s responsibility to ensure that the vehicle is roadworthy, appropriately insured and legally compliant for use during the assessment.
Candidates must arrive on time for their scheduled assessment.
A maximum of 10 minutes will be allowed after the scheduled start time. If the candidate arrives later than this, the assessment will be forfeited and the assessment fee will not be refunded.
Candidates must bring the following documents to their assessment:
If the candidate holds an old-style paper driving licence, they must also bring a valid passport.
Failure to bring any of the required documents may result in the assessment being cancelled and the assessment fee being forfeited.
At the beginning of the assessment, candidates will be required to read a vehicle registration number plate from a distance of 20 metres.
Candidates who fail the eyesight test will not be permitted to continue with the driving assessment.

The assessment is not a test of local geographical knowledge. Candidates will not be asked to drive the assessor to a particular destination. The assessor will provide the necessary directions.
Candidates should drive naturally and in the manner they normally would. Existing driving habits will be taken into consideration, provided the vehicle is being controlled safely and appropriately.
How it is marked
The assessment is passed if the candidate receives 9 faults or fewer and does not receive a serious or dangerous fault. A serious or dangerous fault will result in a fail.
The assessor will ask the candidate to turn the vehicle around to face the opposite direction, simulating the situation of turning around to collect another passenger.

Candidates should not reverse out of a side road, mount the pavement or use a private driveway to complete the manoeuvre.
The manoeuvre must always be completed safely, legally and with appropriate consideration for other road users.
